13 oz plain weave basalt fabric is a medium-weight reinforcement material woven from continuous basalt fibers derived from natural volcanic rock. Its plain weave pattern—an alternating over-under structure—provides balanced strength, dimensional stability, and good handling characteristics in both directions. With an areal weight of approximately 13 ounces per square yard (about 440 g/m²), it is thicker and more robust than lighter basalt fabrics, offering increased strength, stiffness, and impact resistance. It wets out effectively with common resin systems such as epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester, making it suitable for structural composite applications in marine, automotive, industrial, and construction environments where durability, thermal resistance, and corrosion resistance are required.
When purchasing multiple yards of the same fabric you will receive one continuous length of that material. It will be rolled, covered in plastic, and shipped in a cardboard tube to keep the fabric in its first quality condition.
